Midori!!! You have to get it, because who wouldn’t want something that looks THIS radioactive in your body?!?! You take it home, a quick google search leads you to the Midori Sour, a classic, BRIGHT drink that is sure to impress. But now you have an entire bottle of Midori and nothing else to do with it…..lament no more! I present: The Midori Gimlet!
Wait I Thought Gimlet Was The Short Dude From Lord Of The Rings???
Nope, that’s Gimli, but thanks for playing. A Gimlet is literally just a sour! But with lime juice instead of lemon juice. So if you dug the Midori Sour, then you’re probably gonna dig this one too. The Midori Gimlet, much like the sour version, is a riff on the classic Gimlet, with the addition of a small amount of Midori to temper the citrus and round out the experience. It’s going to be a little smoother to taste, and have a little bit of candy-ness and melon feel from the Midori. For people that like sours or gimlets and want something just a tiny bit more complex, this is a solid option.
Midori Gimlet Tips
These bad boys are really pretty simple. The key is using fresh lime juice (double-strained of course, nobody wants that pulp in their teeth), and making sure the water content is enough to tie everything together. I know they say if you shake more than thrice you’re playing with it, but don’t skimp. This cocktail deserves to be played with.
Midori Gimlet Recipe
- 2oz London dry gin (I use Bombay Sapphire)
- .75oz lime juice
- .5oz Midori
- .5oz simple syrup
Combine everything in a shaker, fill 3/4 with ice, shake til the ice no longer sounds sharp (10-15 seconds), and pour into a coupe to serve.
