A celery gimlet cocktail in a coupe glass with a celery leaf garnish on a dark wood table

Wait a second….THAT’s not a Bloody Mary! You’re right. The Bloody Mary is Satan’s cocktail, and I will never be convinced otherwise. HOWEVER, there IS some celery in this bad boy, and let me tell you it is absolutely refreshing. Scroll on down or skip, I don’t care either way, to learn how to make a Celery Gimlet!

But….Celery? With….Lime???

You’re damn right! Hey, we’re not dropping a ton of celery juice in it. We’re just gently (not gently, beat that celery like it stole something) muddling the celery to express it’s essence. It’s like drinking a seltzer…except way better because it’s alcoholic and actually has flavor from the lime and simple syrup. However, don’t expect a face full of celery. It’s a subtle experience that really makes an already refreshing cocktail even more so, especially in the summer.

How To Make The Celery Gimlet

So it’s honestly really freakin simple. The only real hard part is the muddling, as unlike berries, which are weak and give up their wares easily when threatened, the celery keeps her secrets. So when you cut it up into 1/2 inch pieces and throw it in, you REALLY have to crush the life out of it. Just absolutely mutilate it. Don’t worry, you’ll double strain it so there won’t be any celery guts getting stuck in your teeth. Really just take out all of your frustration on that celery. It’s Tuesday night. Your boss has been an ass all week (yesterday and today). Use that.

Celery Gimlet Recipe

  • 2oz London dry gin (I use Bombay Sapphire)
  • .75 lime juice
  • .75 simple syrup
  • 1 stalk celery, cut into 1/2″ pieces

Throw the celery in with the lime juice and muddle it until your wrist hurts, then muddle it until MY wrist hurts. Next add the syrup and gin, fill 3/4 with ice, and shake until the ice sounds a little slushy against the shaker. Next, double strain through a FINE mesh strainer into a coupe glass. I threw a celery leaf in it because I’m fancy (jk, it’s because nobody would click on a bland looking cocktail), but it doesn’t really do anything.
